MEDIA - A Pennsylvania jury yesterday found the millionaire chemicals heir, John du Pont, guilty of third degree murder but mentally ill in the killing of the Olympic champion wrestler, David Schultz.

Lawyers for du Pont (58) had acknowledged he killed Schultz at the wrestler's home on the du Pont estate in January 1996, but argued he suffered from paranoid schizophrenia that rendered him incapable of knowing right from wrong.

Du Pont is a great-great grandson of E.I. du Pont, who in 1802 founded the chemical company that bears his name and formed the basis of one of the largest family fortunes in the United States. The personal wealth of John du Pont has been estimated at $250 million.
