On the Town: Guests at the Gaiety Theatre got in the mood by dressing up. Hippies in platform boots, bell-bottoms and tangerine tops gathered outside the theatre this week for the opening of Oh! What a Night.

It was the 1970s again when "polyester was the cloth of the devil" and there was "no respect left for the simple co-ordination of colours and designs", according to Stretch Mulligan, played by Mykal Rand.

Meadhbh O'Rourke (11) from Rathgar was in pink to match the large Cadillac parked behind her. Leanne Ennis (10) looked like a long-lost member of Abba. She had topped off her outfit with a wig and glasses.

Laoise Fitzgerald (8) from Rathgar, sipping a bottle of Coke, raced over to join the queue for Samantha Mumba's autograph as she posed with her young fans for the photographers. Linda Martin posed for the cameras with Marty Whelan, and Louis Walsh arrived just in time.

Oh! What a Night runs at the Gaiety Theatre, Dublin, until Saturday, May 15th. It runs at the Cork Opera House from Monday, May 17th to Saturday, May 22nd and at the Gaiety again from Monday, May 24th to Saturday, June 5th.
