Deutsche Bank is to create up to 200 jobs in Kilkenny. The German banking giant, which has 93,000 employees worldwide, will set up at the IDA digital park in Loughboy.
It is the second German company to bring high-tech jobs to Kilkenny since July, when Infoscore announced it would create 100 jobs over the next three years. Deutsche Bank is to start recruiting immediately - 70 jobs will be created in the start-up phase. Most of the jobs are likely to be in the bank's e-commerce business.
An official announcement is to be made on Monday by the Tanaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Ms Harney.
Local Fianna Fail TD Mr John McGuinness said there were "very positive indicators" of the prospect of further jobs being created. A high level of interest had been expressed in the remaining advance factory, built by the Kilkenny Industrial Development Company, in Loughboy.
He said companies were attracted to Kilkenny because of the quality of life on offer. Deutsche Bank set up in Dublin in 1990. With 1,500 branches in Germany and extensive branch networks in Italy, Spain and Belgium, it claims to be the biggest bank in the euro zone.
Infoscore's arrival was seen as a breakthrough as Kilkenny had been unable to attract high-tech jobs. A study carried out earlier this year by the former secretary of the Department of Enterprise and Employment, Mr Kevin Bonner, pointed out that the city did not have a single high-technology company "of reasonable size".
