A 28-year-old local man appeared in court yesterday charged with the murder of Declan McNeill, (41), whose body was found in the hallway of his Glenburn Park home in the Baron's Court area of Magherafelt, Co Derry, last weekend.

The defendant, Ryan Loughran, unemployed, from Derramore Avenue, Magherafelt, appeared in custody before the Magistrate's Court in Derry yesterday.

A detective sergeant from the Police Service of Northern Ireland's crime operations department confirmed to defence solicitor Colm McElhenny that throughout five interviews, the defendant "gave a full account of his involvement".

Mr Loughran was remanded in custody to appear before Magherafelt Magistrate's Court on August 28th.
