The Minister for Education, Mr Dempsey, could have a Cabinet reshuffle all of his own as he tees up today with nine of his brothers, his father and uncle for a unique golf classic in Kenmare, Co Kerry.

The Dempseys, including Michael, Brendan, Seán, Noel, Martin, Dermot, David, Niall, Loman and Ronan will all line out together. Missing will be the eldest brother, Frank, and fourth-youngest, Pauric.

In all, 189 brothers, representing 63 teams of three, will line up on the opening day of the 27th annual Brothers Golf Competition at Kenmare Golf Cub.

Asked what his handicap was yesterday, the Minister coyly replied: "My golf and my job."

On the forthcoming Cabinet reshuffle, he joked he was hoping to steer clear of the big prizes and hang on to both the handicap and the job for another while.

The competition was initiated in 1978 by New York lawyer Mr Frank O'Connor, a member of a large family scattered around the world.
