AA Roadwatch have said that drivers can expect delays over the weekend at the M1 near Drogheda as a new bridge is being opened on Monday and there are road works at Coolquay Lodge on the N2 near Ashbourne beginning at 6 a.m. tomorrow morning.

There will be one lane of traffic at Coolquay Lodge when the road works commence and temporary traffic lights will be in operation.

There are also road works on the N11 near Gorey which are currently causing 40 minute delays and AA Roadwatch is expecting more delays over the weekend.

Otherwise, drivers can expect the usual delays on all the major routes out of Dublin.

Met Éireann said that apart from isolated wintry showers in the northwest, most places will be dry early tonight with a sharp frost in places.

Later tonight a batch of wet and windy weather will sweep eastwards to all parts. The rain will be heavy across Munster and south Leinster with some thundery bursts for a time, but further north it will fall as sleet or snow especially across Ulster, the north midlands and north Leinster. Indeed snow falls are also possible on mountains in the south.

Southwest winds will reach gale force across southern counties, with lowest temperatures from zero to 4 degrees.

The weather will become a good deal milder Saturday night and Sunday, with strong South to Southwest winds, and rain at times. It will be colder again Sunday night and Monday, with clear/sunny spells and scattered showers. Strong southwesterly winds and blustery showers are expected for Monday. It will be very wet in places on Tuesday with some heavy falls possible in the south.
