Gardaí plan to send a preliminary file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) within the next few weeks in connection with the collapse of the business of a debs planner and his failure to pay for the hotel bookings of 3,000 Leaving Cert students.

Gardaí have interviewed hundreds of teenagers from up to 30 schools in Cork allegedly affected by events organiser Pat Browne's failure to pay for bookings at hotels in the city after taking deposits in excess of €195,000.

Mr Browne (30) has left his rented accommodation in Upper Glanmire, Co Cork, and his whereabouts are unknown. However, gardaí have made contact with him and he has reportedly agreed to stay in the area to assist with their investigation.
