It is hoped the new store in Cork will be up and running by the Spring of 2005. Debenhams operates in Jervis Street Centre, Dublin. It opened there in 1996.

Earlier today, the chain announced a 5.1 per cent rise in full-year profits despite having to discount excess stock in the summer.

Shares in the group, which have fallen 37 per cent since the start of the year, were up by more than 12 per cent in early trading this morning.
