The RUC Chief Constable has paid tribute to the force's chief information officer, Mr Dave Hanna, who died in hospital on Friday night after collapsing at work on Thursday. Mr Hanna (57) had just started his 27th year working at the RUC press office.

Sir Ronnie Flanagan described Mr Hanna's death as a "tragic loss". He added: "Dave was a most trusted personal adviser, but he was not only a colleague, he was a dear friend whose death is a terrible tragedy. Our thoughts at this time are with his wife, Heather, daughter Lesley Ann and son Gareth who have lost a loving husband and father."

He added: "Dave will be sadly missed by everyone in the wider RUC family who knew him as a consummate professional who always had a smile and a friendly word.

"He brought a presence, dignity and faultless judgment to a highly pressurised work environment. He will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure to know him."
