The results of a post mortem on the body of an 11-year-old girl who died in Co Offaly last night are inconclusive.

The results of a post mortem on the body of an 11-year-old girl who died in Co Offaly last night are inconclusive.

The girl was discovered unconscious in her home at Bachelors Walk, Tullamore at about 9pm.

She was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore where she was pronounced dead.

A post mortem was carried out on the body of the girl by State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy this afternoon, but the results were inconclusive. Gardaí are now awaiting the results of toxicology reports.

The girl's mother, a well-known local GP in her 50s, was also taken from the house to hospital last night. She is being treated in the intensive care unit.

Members of the Garda Technical Bureau carried out an examination of the house today, and the scene remains sealed off this evening.

Gardaí are not looking to interview anyone else at this stage in connection with the death.
