A second trial date has been set for the five IRA men and one other man who attempted to escape from Whitemoor Prison, London, in 1994, following the collapse of the original trial in September.

At that trial at Woolwich Crown Court, Mr Justice Maurice Kay considered that a television report by GMTV, which was broadcast on the fourth day of proceedings, was highly prejudicial to the six men: Paul Magee, Liam McCotter, Danny McNamee, Liam O Duibhir, Peter Sherry and Andrew Russell.

The report dealt extensively with the previous convictions of the men and also outlined the circumstances of the failed prison break from Whitemoor.

The new trial date has been set for January 13th, 1997.
