The capacity of Dublin’s DART train service is to increase by 40 per cent.

Iarnrod Eireann has acquired 12 new DART carriages which after trials will be operational next Spring.

The extra rolling stock will allow trains to be lengthened to 6 units (there are two carriages in each unit). The new units are in addition to 26 new carriages delivered over the last twelve months.

The units built in Japan cost £22.5 million. Among the new features are CCTV, Space for wheelchair use and automated passenger information systems.
