Two arrested over Regency Hotel murder of David Byrne

Two men were arrested on Tuesday evening in connection with the fatal shooting of gangland figure David Byrne at the Regency Hotel in Dublin in February. They remain in custody on Wednesday morning.

It follows the arrest of a third man, aged in his 20s, last Friday night believed to be directly involved in the killing. He remains in custody at Ballymun Garda station.

Byrne (33) from Crumlin in Dublin, was shot dead when gunmen stormed the Regency Hotel during a boxing weigh in on February 5th.

The incident was part of an ongoing gangland feud between the Hutch and Kinahan factions which has claimed six lives to date.

On Tuesday gardaí arrested two men, aged in their 30s and 50s in connection with the Byrne case. They were being held for questioning at Swords and Clontarf Garda stations and can be held for seven days.

Last week also saw two arrests in connection with the murder of Eddie Hutch (58) in the north inner city. Both men were suspected of direct involvement in that killing, garda sources have indicated.

Mr Hutch was killed three days after the Regency Hotel shooting at his home on Poplar Row.
