Suspicious device discovered in south Dublin

The army bomb disposal team last night made safe an explosive device discovered at a private home in a south Dublin suburb.

It was alerted to the situation by gardai who were contacted with concerns over a suspicious object at an address in the Woodlands Grove area of Shankill.

The Defence Forces then dispatched the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team which arrived at approximately 6.45pm.

Once there they located and rendered safe the “improvised explosive device” (IED) and the scene was declared safe a half hour later.

A cordon was placed around the immediate area and a number of road closures were put in place for public safety. Some surrounding houses were also evacuated.

“The device was made safe at the scene without the need for a controlled explosion and was brought to a safe military location for further examination,” the Defence Forces said in a statement.

“All component parts and evidence will be handed over to the gardaí to assist them with their investigation into the incident.”
