Paul McGarry elected as new chairman of Bar Council

David Barniville successor says he is ‘humbled and honoured’ to have been elected

Paul McGarry SC has been elected chairman of the Council of the Bar of Ireland, the representative body for barristers in the Republic.

His election was confirmed on Friday following a ballot of members. He succeeds David Barniville SC in the position.

Mr McGarry was appointed a senior counsel in 2010. He primarily practises in the area of public, commercial and European law.

Mr McGarry said he was “humbled and honoured” to have been elected to the role by his colleagues.
