Kilkenny man (27) dies after altercation in Luton

A 27-year-old Irish man has died following an altercation in Luton, UK, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The man has been named by Bedfordshire police as Kevin Kelly from Goresbridge, Co Kilkenny. He had been living in Luton.

A 23-year-old man from Luton was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and has been released on bail pending further police enquiries.

At approximately 5.15am police were made aware of the altercation which happened in Upper George Street.

Mr Kelly was taken to hospital but died of his injuries.

Detective chief inspector Richard Wall of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit has appealed for witnesses to the incident.

“There may have been several people in the area making their way home at the end of a night out and from CCTV we believe there may be witnesses to the incident,” he said.

“I’m appealing for anyone who saw the altercation, or who witnessed anything of note in the area around this time, to get in touch to help us piece together what happened.”

Mr Kelly has been a listed director of a plastering company called KK Plastering and Drylining since January 2015. He was a UK resident.

He went to school at Borris Vocational School in Co Carlow and has previously spent periods living in Sunnyvale, California, as well as Brisbane and Sydney in Australia.
