Conference on 1990 Industrial Relations Act

To mark 20 years since the enactment the Industrial Relations Act 1990, the school of law at University College Dublin is hosting a conference on July 16th-17th.

Speakers will include Bertie Ahern TD who, as minister for labour, was responsible for introducing the legislation; Dara Calleary, Minister of State for Labour Affairs; Joe Wallace, University of Limerick; Kieran Mulvey of the Labour Relations Commission; Kevin Duffy of the Labour Court; Kevin Bonner, former secretary general of the Department of Labour; Jack OConnor of Siptu; Brendan McGinty of Ibec; Ms Justice Mary Laffoy; Prof Keith Ewing of the University of London and Anthony Kerr of UCD.

Dublin lecture on white-collar crime

The Irish Women Lawyers Association is holding a seminar on white-collar crime on Saturday, July 3rd, from 10am-1pm at the Law Society, Blackhall Place, Dublin.

Speakers include Dr Shane Kilcommins of the law department at UCC; Kevin Prendergast, corporate compliance manager at the ODCE; Det Sgt Catharina Gunne of the commercial fraud investigation unit at the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation, and Det Sgt Clodagh White of the financial intelligence unit.

Seminar on Civil Partnership Bill

The Family Lawyers Association is organising a seminar on the Civil Partnership Bill tomorrow in the Law Library at Distillery Building at 5.30pm.

The speakers will be Dr Fergus Ryan of the Dublin Institute of Technology and solicitor Muriel Walls of McCann Fitzgerald.

Master's for legal practitioners

The LLM (Practitioner) degree, a collaboration between the faculty of law at UCC and the Law Society of Ireland, was launched in UCC earlier this month.

The degree programme can be completed in a 12-36- month period and can be tailored to suit the individual needs of each participating student.
