Gardaí issue appeal over stolen poisonous substance

Pentobarbital stolen from vet’s clinic in Celbridge last week

Gardaí in Celbridge are investigating a burglary at a veterinary clinic in Celbridge, Co Kildare in which a poisonous substance was among a number of items stolen.

The burglary occurred between 8.30pm on Tuesday, November 5th, and 5pm on Wednesday, November 6th.

The toxic substance taken was Release, a pentobarbital not intended for human consumption.

The product was contained in a 100ml clear glass bottle with an orange and white label and the words “Release” written in block capitals across the label.

It is believed that there was only 15ml of the substance in the bottle when it was taken.

Gardaí and the Irish Medicines Board are very anxious that this item is recovered and are appealing for anyone who may have any information or know the whereabouts of this poison to contact the Gardai in Leixlip on 01 6667800, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.

If anyone has consumed this product, they should seek immediate medical assistance. They are also advised to contact the Poisons Unit at Beaumont Hospital on 01 837 9966.
