Gardaí begin murder investigation after Dublin shooting

Gardaí have begun a murder investigation following the fatal shooting of man in a Dublin industrial estate earlier today.

The 43-year-old victim was shot several times at a commercial premises in the Greenogue Industrial Estate in Rathcoole at 9.30am.

He is understood to be a Lithunian national and to have been with his wife at the time of the shooting.

After responding to an emergency call, gardaí discovered the man in a premises occupied by Progressive Recycling, a cash-for-clothes business.

He had a number of gunshot wounds.

The victim was attended to by gardaí and emeregency services at the scene before being removed to Tallaght hospital by ambulance where he was later pronounced dead.

Gardaí said a postmortem examination would be carried out later today by the Deputy State Pathologist Dr Khalid Jabbar.

A technical examination of the scene is continuing this evening and gardaí have established an incident room at Clondalkin Garda station.

Detectives are appealing to anyone in the vicinity of Greenogue Industrial Estate and the Aylmer Housing Estate, Newcastle, between 7am and 10am this morning to contact them.

They also wish to speak to anyone who may have seen a silver coloured Audi A3 (five-door hatch-back) car with the partial registration number 05–TN in the vicinity of either location between 7am and 10am to contact them at Clondalkin Garda Station 01-6667600 or the Garda Confidential line 1800 666 111.

No arrests have been made to date and enquiries are ongoing, a Garda spokesman said.

Local Fianna Fáil councillor Trevor Gilligan condemned the shooting.

“This attack in broad daylight is yet another terrible example of just how brazen criminal thugs have become and just how vulnerable our local communities feel at this time,” he said.
