Four arrested as group of men robbed while stopped on M7

Incident took place on hard shoulder of busy motorway in Co Kildare

Four people have been arrested in connection with an incident in which three men were assaulted and robbed as they sat in a car beside the M7 motorway.

The incident took place on Wednesday at 12.10pm close to junction 10 at Newhall, just south of Naas town.

Three men in their 20s were in a 2009 Dublin-registered blue Volkswagen Golf that was stopped on the hard shoulder of the motorway when they were approached by four men in a 151 D reg white VW Golf.

The four men assaulted them and stole a small quantity of cigarettes.

The white ar was parked on the hard shoulder in front of the other car while the incident took place.

The motorway was busy at the time and gardaí are seeking witnesses or anyone who was passing at the time to contact them.

Gardaí ­have established that the white VW Golf travelled from Tallaght before the robbery and then onto Tullow Co Carlow, where it was stopped by gardaí.

Three men in their 20s and a juvenile were arrested.

The three men were charged in relation to the incident and appeared in Naas District Court on Thursday, when they were remanded on bail.

A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to the juvenile, a Garda spokesman said.
