Final hours in CAB auction of criminal’s watch on eBay

Highest bid for ladies Rolex watch seized from criminals and offered for sale is €6,900

There are just hours left in an auction of a Ladies Rolex watch seized from criminals and put up for sale online by the Criminal Assets Bureau.

The Ladies Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust was purchased new for over €9,000. Bidding started at € 6,000 on October 8th and within 24 hours there had been a dozen bids, the highest of which was €7,400.

However, since then it appears a number of the bids have been withdrawn and the highest bid is now €6,900.

Those interested in bidding for the watch have eight hours to make an offer.

The watch is categorised as used in the sale, but has a 24-month guarantee from Keanes jewellers.

CAB has described the auction as a test case and it is considering selling other seized luxury items online, in line with how this material is sold by other European police forces.

The watch is being sold by the username “proceedsofcrimeact1996” and CAB described the item as a Christmas present from 2011.

It says the sale is happening following an application under the Proceeds of Crime Act, 1997 and 2005 and is being sold by a court-appointed receiver.

It is understood the watch was seized from a property in the Moyross area of Limerick last month during which an Audi Q7 car and cash were also recovered.
