Family identifies body of Lithuanian Audrius Bukus

A Lithuanian man who was murdered and his body dumped on a beach in Meath was identified yesterday by members of his family, who had flown in from Lithuania.

Gardaí confirmed he was Audrius Bukus (44). He had lived in Ireland for four years and was of no fixed abode but had spent time in the Homeless Aid shelter in Drogheda, Co Louth.

He was known to gardaí for minor public-order offences.

Gardaí confirmed that a car was seized on the Marsh Road in Drogheda as part of the investigation. Sources said it was possible it was used to take the injured man from Drogheda to Mornington beach.

Mr Bukus had serious injuries to his head and upper body. A postmortem was carried out by State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy. It is believed he suffered stab wounds and serious head injuries.

A rented house on Marsh Road in Drogheda, one of the main roads towards Mornington, remained sealed off as gardaí continued a full technical examination.

A large number of people were in the house on Monday night, many of them originally from eastern Europe.
