Vilnius - Lithuania's Supreme Court has annulled the rehabilitation of 76 people suspected of collaborating with or participating in war crimes during the second World War.

After the Baltic state recovered its independence in 1991, it moved to rehabilitate people believed to have been falsely convicted or prosecuted for opposing the Soviet and Nazi occupation regimes.

About 50,000 people have been rehabilitated, but the rehabilitation can be revoked if evidence comes to light of participation in war crimes. Nazi-hunters complained that some collaborators exploited the rehabilitation programs. More that 90 per cent of Lithuania's pre-war Jewish community perished during the Holocaust.
