A High Court action against Belfast City Council over its refusal to fund last year's St Patrick's Day carnival was dismissed yesterday. Last March leave for a judicial review had been granted to Ms Caitriona Ruane, chairwoman of the carnival committee, but St Patrick's Day passed before the case could be heard. In that action Ms Ruane and others claimed damages by reason of alleged discrimination.

Mr Justice Coghlin ordered yesterday that the application be struck out as a civil bill had since been issued against the council.
