A court has granted property developer Fergal Gaughran and his wife, Jane, extra time to reconstruct a €3 million dormer bungalow they bought and almost completely demolished to create a new five-bedroom home.

Judge Jacqueline Linnane is allowing the couple an extra 18 months to complete the work.

The couple had earlier agreed to reconstruct the house in Mount Merrion, Dublin, which they had "substantially demolished" without planning permission.

The Gaughrans, Holywell, Kilmacud Road Upper, Dublin 14, consented in the Circuit Civil Court to "fully reconstruct the house at No 1, The Rise, Mount Merrion, Dublin, to its condition prior to the commencement of the unauthorised demolition works."
