A couple are to go on trial in the Central Criminal Court on more than 300 charges relating to the abuse of their children following a court appearance today.

The husband and wife, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in district court today. The pair have have been in custody since they were arrested late last year, and a previous court sitting was told all their children are now in care.

The father faces 289 charges of rape, buggery and indecent assault of four of his daughters over 18 years. He also has two charges of neglect and cruelty towards his son. He was remanded in custody with consent to bail.

His wife (45) is facing a total of 18 charges of neglect and cruelty towards her children on dates between 2002 and last year. She was also remanded in custody.
