A new £15 million extension to the Mercy Hospital in Cork was opened yesterday by the Minister for Health and Children, Mr Cowen.
The extension includes four new acute in-patient wards, a new pathology department and a 50-bed acute psychiatric unit. It has also led to the appointment of an additional 92 staff - a move approved by the Department of Health at a cost of more than £3 million.
