A 54-year-old GP was yesterday returned for trial by judge and jury after he was charged with sexually assaulting three females at various locations in North Cork on different dates extending back over 20 years.

Dr Kevin Mulcahy of Creggan, Lombardstown, Mallow appeared at Mallow District Court yesterday where he was charged with two counts of indecent assault and two counts of sexual assault on the three females on various dates in the 1980s and 1990s.

Dr Mulcahy is charged with one count of indecent assault on one female in Banteer in 1989 and a second count of indecent assault on another female at a surgery in Kanturk on a date between 1989 and 1990. He is further accused of sexually assaulting a third complainant at a surgery in Lombardstown in 1995 while the fourth charge alleges that Dr Mulcahy sexually assaulted the same woman at a surgery in Lombardstown in 1996.

Judge Olann Kelleher remanded Dr Mulcahy on his own bond of €1,000 and sent him forward to the next sittings of Cork Circuit Criminal Court starting on April 24th. Dr Mulcahy’s solicitor, Carmel Keane asked Judge Kelleher to make an order prohibiting identification of Dr Mulcahy but Judge Kelleher said there was no legal basis for making such an order and he refused her application.
