Roaming cut: Vodafone last week accepted the inevitable by saying said it would cut the cost of using other firms' networks when abroad by at least 40 per cent. The company said the average cost of "network roaming" in Europe would fall from 90 cent to 55 cent a minute following the change. The move pre-empts a possible imposed cut in the charges, which the European Commission has labelled as excessive.

Nintendo has previewed its next-generation games console which it hopes will take a substantial chunk of the €24 billion global video game market in the run-up to Christmas.

Wii (pronounced wee, somewhat unfortunately, perhaps) has a remote control containing delicate sensors to help it act as a tennis racquet, weapon, baseball bat, golf club or aircraft, depending on the game played. It will not go on sale until the autumn, but it is expected to be much cheaper than the recently unveiled PlayStation 3 which will cost from €495.

If you have ever wanted to smell like mouldy cheese on a night out, your day may soon be at hand. While scent of Stilton might not sound like the ideal base for a perfume, British cheesemakers are hoping, somewhat forlornly perhaps, it will increase the popularity of the famous blue cheese. "Eau de Stilton" blended by a Manchester aromatics company apparently "re-creates the earthy and fruity aroma of Blue Stilton cheese in an eminently wearable perfume". It features a "symphony of natural base notes including yarrow, angelica seed, clary sage and valerian". Commissioned by the British Stilton Cheese Makers Association (SCMA) for its Stick on Stilton campaign, it is not yet widely available.
