THE Western Health Board yesterday prosecuted a hotel in Connemara for breaches of the food hygiene regulations in a case before Spiddal District Court. The case was brought against Coalbrook Ltd, owners of the Connemara Coast Hotel in Furbo.

Mr Maurice Mulcahy, an environmental health officer, told the court he had visited the hotel in February and found fault with the condition of some kitchen surfaces and a storage area. There were dirt deposits on some fillings.

Ms Breda Tierney, solicitor for Coalbrook, said the breaches were admitted. The hotel took an extremely serious view of hygiene.

Judge John Garavan fined Coalbrook £500 on the first summons, marked the other two proven and ordered the company to pay costs.
