Mexico City - The Vatican's transfer from Chiapas of Roman Bishop Raul Vera, seen as a supporter of Indian rights in Mexico's southern state, could lead to more fighting there, human rights groups have warned. "It is increasingly likely that we will end up with more violence," said Mr Michael Chamberlin, an official with an association of more than 50 Mexican human rights groups.

Opposition politicians in Chiapas also said Bishop Vera's transfer would weaken the clergy's efforts to mediate in the conflict.
