London - Police last night remained "extremely concerned" as they continued to search for two 10-year-old girls who disappeared on their way to school yesterday.

Lisa Hoodless and Charlene Lunnon, both of Hastings, East Sussex, have not been seen since setting off for the 500-yard walk to Christ Church School in Woodland Vale Road, Hastings, at 8.30 a.m.

Det Chief Supt Jeremy Paine, who led the 1997 inquiry into the murder of 13-year-old schoolgirl Billie Jo Jenkins at Hastings, was yesterday drafted in to lead the inquiry.
