Concern for man seized in Belfast

The family of a Catholic man missing for more than 24 hours have expressed grave concern about his safety

The family of a Catholic man missing for more than 24 hours have expressed grave concern about his safety. Mr Mark Kelly (22) was seized as he stood outside a house in Greenpark Manor in Belfast late on Wednesday night.

He was bundled into a white van by five masked men. The vehicle then sped off. There are reports that it crossed the Border. Locals speculated republican paramilitaries were involved. Mr Kelly's family have declined to talk to the press, but a local priest who visited them yesterday said they were very worried about his welfare. Police on both sides of the Border have launched a hunt. RUC officers said they were very anxious about his safety. However, they were unwilling to speculate about a motive. Police have asked for anyone with information to contact them immediately. It is understood Mr Kelly was visiting the house when he was seized, but that he does live locally.
