Collins assault retrial adjourned

A hearing in relation to the retrial of former boxing world champion Steve Collins has been adjourned until February 25th.

A hearing in relation to the retrial of former boxing world champion Steve Collins has been adjourned until February 25th.

Judge Ann Ryan, sitting at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court today, was told the potential retrial, which was due to start in October has been delayed because of a Supreme Court decision during the summer relating to similar trials. The issues arising out of the DPP v Reade judgment had been resolved.

Mr Collins, who lives in St Albans, Hertfordshire, was tried last year in relation to an alleged assault on Albanian national Adriatik Vodo (37) when he was refused entry at the stadium on June 3rd, 2006.

A jury failed to agree on a verdict on the same charge after a six-day trial and four hours of deliberation. Mr Collins claimed he acted in self-defence. Mr Collins, who was not in court, remains on continuing bail.
