A cross-border investigation is underway into the kidnapping of a woman in Co Louth in the early hours of Friday morning.

A cross-border investigation is underway into the kidnapping of a woman in Co Louth in the early hours of Friday morning.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland and gardaí are investigating the incident, which occurred in Dundalk and involved a 20-year-old woman.

A PSNI spokeswoman said the woman was walking in Dundalk at about midnight on Friday and was approached and dragged into a car.

She was taken to a house in Newry, from which she later escaped and ran to safety.

Two people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

A man (21) appeared before Newry Magistrates Court yesterday charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment, indecent assault and motoring offences.

A 25-year-old woman was also arrested in connection with the incident. She has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the PSNI in Newry or the Crimestoppers charity.

A Garda spokeswoman said the force was assisting the PSNI in its inquiries.
