TWO pedestrians died after being struck by cars in Co Galway over the weekend

TWO pedestrians died after being struck by cars in Co Galway over the weekend. Gardai have appealed for witnesses to what they believe was a hit and run incident in Claregalway, in which a pedestrian was killed after being struck by a number of cars.

Gardai were called to Claregalway shortly after 1 a.m. yesterday when the body of a man was discovered on the road. He was Mr Michael Greelish (60) a single man from Claregalway.

Gardai believe he may nave been struck by more than one vehicle and that the first car which hit him failed to stop.

Another pedestrian was struck by a car at Brackenagh, near Ballinasloe just after 8 p.m. on Saturday. He was Mr Francis Ryan (65), a single man from Ballinasloe, who died later.

Meanwhile a woman has died following a collision between two cars on the Loughrea Ballinasloe road yesterday afternoon, a mile outside Loughrea. A young girl travelling in the car with the woman was injured, as were the two passengers in the second car. The injured were taken to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe, where their condition was described as "fairly comfortable".
