A CHEF who was nervous about doing a new course to become a catering instructor drowned herself, an inquest was told yesterday.

The disappearance of the 32 year old single woman led to a nationwide appeal by her family and the Garda to trace her after her car was found at Bray DART station, Co Wicklow, on December 13th last.

Yesterday her sister told the Dublin County Coroner's Court in Swords that she moved to CERT headquarters in Amiens Street Dublin, from her job as a chef in Rosapenna Hotel, Downings, Co Donegal, as she intended taking a course to become a catering instructor.

She spoke to her on the phone on December 11th last and her sister said: "The course was hard going. I feel as if I am failure and everybody was talking about me."

The following day her sister was due to give a presentation at CERT, but after talking to her through the night her sister said she had decided to quit the course.

Her sister was "jittery and on edge and was very negative about herself".

Garda Paul Reid told the inquest that the dead woman's body was found washed up on Portmarnock beach by a passerby on January 1st.

She was identified by fingerprints on her boot and her CERT folder.

Dr Bartley Sheehan, the Dublin County Coroner, returned a verdict of self inflicted drowning.
