Hardly surprising, but Charlie Haughey is really brassed off with Bertie Ahern. "I made him what he is and now he won't even acknowledge me", Charlie has been growling to friends. Before Christmas, he plotted revenge. The National College of Art and Design was having a function at which Bertie was due to do the honours.
Charlie was also invited and decided to go. His plan was to march up to Bertie, shake him warmly by the hand and have the assembled photographers record the occasion for posterity. Alas for Charlie, there were no photographers there.
As for Charlie's relations with Bertie's predecessor, he can hardly bring himself to mention him by name and usually refers to "that Longford git".
