A man was charged in a Sydney court yesterday over an August 2008 attack that left Irishman David Keohane with brain damage and confined to a wheelchair, writes Pádraig Collins from Sydney.

Kane Tupuolamoui (21) from New Zealand was charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent to murder. The charges were laid within hours of his arrival in Sydney on an overnight flight following his transfer from Darwin in the Northern Territory.

In May, Thomas Isaako (21) was sentenced to 19 years in jail with a non-parole period of 14 years for assaulting Mr Keohane.
