Demand for residential mortgages showed further strong growth in June with the Central Bank reporting a 23.9 per cent increase.

This compares with a total of €942 million lent out for mortgages in May of this year.

Last month the Bank expressed concern at the sustained demand for residential mortgages. It has noted that many financial crises have been preceded by rapid loan growth and asset-price escalation.
