Clare County Council has been offered £100,000 by the Ford car company if it succeeds in reducing the amount of litter in the county. The initiative, part of a campaign orchestrated by Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL), follows a survey which claimed that one-third of the county's streets were heavily littered during the summer at the height of the tourist season.

IBAL proposes to donate the £100,000, courtesy of Ford, to be used by the council for a local authority project, if it can raise its overall cleanliness rating to a "litter-free" status. The adjudicator is to be An Taisce.
