Money gardaí believed to be part of the proceeds of a kidnapping and robbery has been forfeited to the State from the estate of a dead man.

Kerida Naidoo, for the Revenue Commissioners, read from the affidavit of Garda Sgt Keith Horgan who outlined that Gerard Grant from Dublin (then aged 41) was arrested on February 2nd, 2006, in Coolock after gardaí stopped a car in which he was a passenger.

During a search, €15,000 was discovered in Grant’s possession.

He provided no explanation for the cash and gardaí believed it to be part of money stolen during a so-called tiger kidnapping in March 2005.

The court was told that the cash had been found in his underwear after the Garda search of his body.

Evidence was given that Grant had since died while out of the State.

Judge Martin Nolan ordered that the money be forfeited to the State from Grant’s estate, care of Hanahoe Solicitors, Parliament Street, Dublin 2.
