A 65-year-old woman who broke her leg when she fell in church in Lisnaskea in 1994 won £25,000 compensation yesterday.

Mrs Marie Rennick, from Lisnaskea, Co Fermanagh, told the High Court in Belfast that as she was getting out of a pew a kneeling-board fell down and trapped her foot and she fell.

Compensation was agreed at £25,000 and the issue was whether there had been negligence by Canon Joseph Mullan, who was sued on behalf of the church trustees. The judge held that negligence had not been established and dismissed Mrs Rennick's case.
