Two car bombs exploded in a mostly Shi'ite Muslim district of Baghdad today, killing eight people and wounding 30, police said.

They said Iraqi security forces discovered a roadside bomb in the same area and detonated it. The attack took place in al-Ameen district of southeastern Baghdad.

There has been a spate of bombings in Shi'ite areas in Iraq in the last few weeks, raising fears of a resurgence of sectarian violence, which has only abated in the last 18 months.

In the worst attack yesterday, two truck bombs exploded within minutes of each other in the mostly Shi'ite village of al-Khazna, east of the restive northern city of Mosul, killing 30 people and wounding 155.
