A CLERGYMAN died after he cycled 240km (150 miles) to the climate change summit in Copenhagen, it was announced today.

The Rev Canon Hereward Cooke (70) died in his sleep after he travelled the distance with 25 others to raise money for Christian Aid. The Bishop of Norwich, the Rt Rev Graham James, said Canon Cooke had a “zest for life”.

“Hereward Cooke was widely loved and appreciated, as a pastoral priest, an industrial chaplain, a Norwich city councillor and, most recently as our diocesan environmental officer,” he said. “It was in that capacity that he was at the Copenhagen conference . . .

“Hereward had a zest for life and was always positive about the potential of his fellow men and women. He lived life in the fullness which God promises.” – (PA)
