C of I deacons ordained to priesthood

THREE DEACONS were ordained into the priesthood in the Church of Ireland dioceses of Cork, Cloyne and Ross yesterday.

Patrick Burke from Cork city, Adrian Moran from Midleton and Bandon’s Anne Skuse were ordained by Bishop Paul Colton, assisted by the priests of the diocese, at the ordination service in St Finbarre’s Cathedral, Cork.

Rev Patrick Burke (curate assistant in Douglas Union with Frankfield), Rev Adrian Moran (auxiliary deacon, Shandon Union) and Rev Anne Skuse (auxiliary deacon, Kilmocomogue Union) were ordained to the priesthood on the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Bishop Colton said that it was an important day for the church in the diocese.

The preacher at the service was Fr Kevin Morris, Vicar of St Michael and All Angels, Bedford Park, London and a director of post-ordination training in the Diocese of London.

Meanwhile, Rev Ivan Dungan (at present assisting in Bunclody), Rev Dr Christine O’Dowd Smyth (Stradbally/Lismore) and Rev Ruth West (at present assisting in Tramore/Waterford) were ordained priests in Christ Church Cathedral, Waterford on Sunday.

The service was conducted by the Right Rev Michael Burrows, Bishop of Cashel Ossory.
