RANGOON – Burma’s supreme court has agreed to hear an appeal against the house arrest of opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who was sentenced in August to a further 18 months in detention for breaking a security law.

Ms Suu Kyi’s lawyer, Nyan Win, said he expected to present the case within a month.

The Nobel laureate was sentenced to three years in prison – commuted to 18 months of house arrest – last August for allowing an American intruder to stay at her residence for two nights. – (Reuters)
