MARK KEHOE, brother of Lorraine Flood, read a statement prepared by the Kehoe family following the inquest into the deaths in Clonroche just over a year ago. In an emotional statement, Mr Kehoe found it hard to hold back the tears and was supported by a large extended family outside the Riverside Park Hotel in Enniscorthy yesterday.

“Words cannot describe our shock and devastation following the tragic and horrific deaths of our beloved daughter and sister, Lorraine, and her precious children Mark and Julie.”

Having listened to the evidence of pathologist Dr Declan Gilsenan, the family were clearly emotional and many broke down during the hour-long hearing.

“Lorraine was truly an amazing daughter, sister, wife and mother and for anyone who met her during her short life her memory will never fade. We love you Lorraine, Mark and Julie, you will always remain in our hearts.”

The deaths of the Flood family on April 26th, 2008, were a huge shock to the quiet village of Clonroche. The village is still coming to terms with the tragedy. The burned shell of the house in the centre of the village is a daily reminder of the lives that were lost there.

Mr Kehoe said the community had been a great help. “We thank everybody most sincerely for their ongoing kindness, support and prayers in this very difficult time.

“With the help and support of our dear family, friends, neighbours and colleagues, to whom we are profoundly grateful, we are endeavouring to cope as best we can and rebuild our shattered lives.”
