An explosion killed four soldiers from the US-led coalition force on Saturday in Afghanistan, the US military said, the single bloodiest toll among foreign forces for weeks in the country.

The soldiers were conducting an operation when an improvised explosive device went off in western Farah province, the military said in a statement, but did not identify the victims.

"Four coalition service members were killed and another was seriously wounded today while conducting operations in Farah province following an IED strike this morning," it said.
