Catholic Church spokesmen have denied reports that Bishop Eamonn Casey may return to Ireland this week.
A spokesman for the Catholic Press and Information Office said that as far as he was aware no decision had been made on Bishop Casey's return. His remarks were echoed by a spokesman for the Irish Bishops' Conference.
Bishop Casey's contract to do missionary work in Ecuador is to end in August.
